Ingredients
- 2 cups flour
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 2 teaspoons ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon clove
- 1/2 teaspoon allspice
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup shortening, room temperature
- 1/4 cup butter, room temperature
- 1 egg
- 1/3 cup molasses
- 3/4 cup dark brown sugar, firmly packed
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
Recipe
- 1 combine flour, baking soda, spices, and salt in a small bowl. whisk together.
- 2 combine brown sugar, shortening, and butter. beat well.
- 3 add egg and molasses. beat well.
- 4 add flour mixture. mix until combined.
- 5 chill dough for at least 30 minutes, preferably longer.
- 6 preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- 7 form dough into 1 1/4 inch balls. roll in granulated sugar and place on cookie sheet.
- 8 bake at 350 degrees for approximately 11-12 minutes, or until cookies are cracked slightly on top but are still very soft to the touch.
- 9 allow to cool 2 minutes on cookie sheet, then move to rack to cool completely before storing.
