Grandma's Peanut Brittle

Total Time: 30 mins Preparation Time: 10 mins Cook Time: 20 mins

Ingredients

  • Servings: 30
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 pint water
  • 1 lb peanuts
  • 1 tablespoon baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla

Recipe

  • 1 in a heavy 2 quart saucepan, over medium heat, bring to a boil sugar, vanilla and water.
  • 2 stir until sugar is dissolved.
  • 3 stir in peanuts.
  • 4 set candy thermometer in place, and continue cooking. stir frequently until temperature reaches 300 degrees f (150 degrees c), or until hardens when dropped in water.
  • 5 remove from heat; immediately stir in baking soda.
  • 6 pour immediately onto cookie sheet.
  • 7 lift and pull peanut mixture( i do this with 2 forks) into rectangle about 14x12 inches.
  • 8 let cool.
  • 9 snap candy into pieces.
