Mom's Pepparkakor (gingerbread Cookies)

Ingredients
- 1 cup shortening
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup molasses
- 1 egg
- 2 tablespoons vinegar
- 5 cups flour
- 3 teaspoons grated gingerroot
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 lb powdered sugar
- 4 tablespoons milk
Recipe
- 1 cream shortening and sugar.
- 2 beat in molasses, egg and vinegar.
- 3 stir flour with ginger, soda, cinnamon, cloves and salt.
- 4 blend into batter.
- 5 chill for 3 hours.
- 6 on lightly floured surface, roll dough to at least 0.125 inch thickness.
- 7 cut into desired shapes with cookie cutter.
- 8 place one inch apart on greased cookie sheet.
- 9 bake at 375° for 5-6 minutes. cool slightly; remove cookies to rack and cool.
- 10 mix shortening, vanilla, powdered sugar and milk.
- 11 drizzle over cookies.
