Ornamental Frosting

Total Time: 15 mins Preparation Time: 15 mins

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup margarine or 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • 1 lb confectioners' sugar
  • 2 egg whites, unbeaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1 -2 tablespoon milk or 1 -2 tablespoon beet juice

Recipe

  • 1 cut or stir margarine or butter into confectioners' sugar.
  • 2 cool, if melted butter or margarine used.
  • 3 add egg whites, vanilla and cream of tarter.
  • 4 beat well.
  • 5 stir in milk or beet juice a little at a time, until mixture is of spreading or barely pouring consistency.
  • 6 tint with food coloring, if using.
  • 7 spread on cookies or place cookies on rack over waxed paper and pour frosting over them, spreading as needed.
  • 8 frosting can be refrigerated for several days.
  • 9 add more liquid if needed.
