Ornamental Frosting

Ingredients
- 1/4 cup margarine or 1/4 cup butter, softened
- 1 lb confectioners' sugar
- 2 egg whites, unbeaten
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 1 -2 tablespoon milk or 1 -2 tablespoon beet juice
Recipe
- 1 cut or stir margarine or butter into confectioners' sugar.
- 2 cool, if melted butter or margarine used.
- 3 add egg whites, vanilla and cream of tarter.
- 4 beat well.
- 5 stir in milk or beet juice a little at a time, until mixture is of spreading or barely pouring consistency.
- 6 tint with food coloring, if using.
- 7 spread on cookies or place cookies on rack over waxed paper and pour frosting over them, spreading as needed.
- 8 frosting can be refrigerated for several days.
- 9 add more liquid if needed.
