Mississippi Mud Cake

Total Time: 1 hr Preparation Time: 20 mins Cook Time: 40 mins

Ingredients

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup crisco
  • 1/3 cup cocoa
  • 1 1/2 cups flour (if using self-rising flour, omit the salt)
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla
  • 1 (12 ounce) package miniature marshmallows
  • 1 cup nuts (optional)
  • 3/4 cup butter or 3/4 cup margarine
  • 0.75 (16 ounce) bag powdered sugar, to taste
  • 1/4 cup cocoa
  • 1/4 cup carnation instant milk
  • 1 cup nuts (optional)

Recipe

  • 1 cream sugar and cocoa with crisco.
  • 2 add eggs one at a time, beating well.
  • 3 stir dry ingredients and add to mixture.
  • 4 add nuts and vanilla.
  • 5 bake in long pan (13 x 9 works) or cookie sheet for 30 minutes at 300 degrees.
  • 6 mix icing while cake is baking.
  • 7 remove from oven and cover with marshmallows.
  • 8 return to oven for 10 minutes.
  • 9 remove from oven and cool 20 minutes.
  • 10 cover with icing.
